Our bathroom in The Barn was one of the first things finished when we were still living in the camper. That was a glorious day to finally be able to take a shower in normal size shower with room to move my arms above my head, raise my legs above knee bent position to shave and not be able to touch all of the shower walls from one location in the shower! It's funny the things that are so trivial become so important when you don't have them. Well that was the bathroom for me. I think as long as I lived in the camper I just kept taking it one day at a time and one more day making it through I was one more day closer to moving into The Barn. It's definitely been a learning experience for all of us. I'm so very thankful to be to the decorating stage of the game even though we still have other finishes to go! So for starters in the bathroom, I purchased this metal shelf from a local decor shop in Carthage, IL. My mom actually sp...
So after we bought this property in the fall of 2018 we would go over and hang out at the property on weekends. The kids loved to walk the paths and created a trail clear into the woods where they made a fire pit out of rocks from the creek. Kale was super proud of this area. Emelia loved to work on the stone path down into the creek. Ava helped, but she more just enjoyed the beauty of the property and loved to dream up ideas of where we would build and how it would all look. We spent countless hours....days...laying out where the house would be built and a barn. Little did we know at the time that we would do things all in reverse. It was May of 2019 and getting close to Mother’s Day. I told Dave that I could envision this spot just up the small hill in the woods as my outdoor oasis where we could walk to from our walk out basement. It just seemed perfect. It had a path from the walk out and another that led to the fire pit. I pictured lights strung from tree to tree with...
Our Barn Story all began in 2019 when we put our "forever home" on the market in Illinois. We built our dream home out of ICF blocks and lived just down the road from our favorite winery and raised our family there. Little did we know that my job change and commute with have us make a decision to move across the mighty Mississippi into Missouri and begin another chapter in our life. We found land outside of Palmyra, Missouri and purchased 13.5 acres of half pasture half wooded land. It was a perfect 11 minute commute to my work and the same distance to my husband's work. Everything seemed too good to be true. The land had some paths down to the creek and the kids created a fire pit and a stone path down to the water's edge. The land was scoped out for where we would build the barn and our future home. We needed pasture for our "asses" (minature burrows) that we have from our oldest son's Make-A-Wish. That's a story for another post, but we de...
